I am working on a 1996 Evinrude 88 spl. The tilt and trim system leaks down very quickly after any movement in the up position, and does not hold trim. The pump motor will bring the engine up, and it will also increase the speed of the motor coming down; so as, I don't think the pump assembly is faulty. The manual release valve is closed and is not leaking. Is the check valve located on the port side trim ram, like a Mercury or is located elsewhere? I have a Clymer shop manual, but it says hardly anyhting about the tilt/trim system, other than it should work.
