Default Help with Evinrude Powerhead

I have a 1978 Evinrude 150 model number 150849S with a cracked cylinder wall. I was wondering what year and model powerheads will fit this engine? I found an older unknown year Johnson 150 that looks right and just saw a 1998 Evinrude 150 powerhead on ebay. Any help would be great...

Unless you are determined to replace your motor it can probably be fixed with a new sleve.

The crack is on the bottom part of the middle cylinder on the side with the starter. It's actually a small (dime size) chunk missing at the bottom. It seems a connecting rod bolt came loose while running. I will try and post a picture for some more advice if you guys are willing. How much does re-sleeving a cylinder run?

Hi AltdawgIs the chunck below where the rings travel ? Did you mesure the compression before dissassembling or did the rod break in your time, or before a previous repair ?

The broken area is below the ring travel but some of the block metal is broken and I wasn't sure how much support the sleeve needs. As I said, it's only a small size area missing so you guys have got me thinking that a new sleeve might work. I think the only way to know is for me to post a picture so I am gonna try and get one soon but working all weekend. Thanks to everyone for helping me on this. This board is awesome!
