My 35hp Evinrude kicks in and out of gear before I even get to full throttle. It had a new clutch dog, carbs, foward gear, shift linkage and cables replaced in May. I have heard that my problem is in the lower unit,or the linkage, or even could be a screw loose on the shift lever, or even the prop. IS THERE ANY WAY TO IDENTIFY WHICH PROBLEM IT MAY MORE LIKELY BE? HOW (AND HOW MUCH$), WOULD I GO ABOUT FIXING THE PROBLEM?
First thing I'd do is disconnect the shift cable from the shift lever, shift it into forward and see if it still jumped out. If it doesn't, the problem is in the shift cable adjustment. c/6Hooty
cplugpiranha Can you describe "Popping out of gear" a bit more. Does it start to go and then rev up or is there a distint "Pop" or thud when it comes out of gear? Reason I ask, is that if it just revs up and doesn't go anywhere, it could very well be a spun prop. Since you have replaced the other causes of the problem, it sounds like a prop problem at this point.
