Re: paint for '86 evinrude
My marine supply store, (once an Evinrude Dealer), carries spray cans of OMC paint. As I remember, it states the years the paint matches on the cans. It also seems like they had several different silver/blue metallics over the years. Since you know the year of your motor, it should be an easy match.Charles
That is great to Know, how much do those run? Does the finished product look pretty good or is it just for touch-ups??? I will be painting the entire top of the cowling, it has about 25% of the original paint left on it.fish

Seems like it was about $7 per can. One can should do the top of a cowl pretty easy.Painting is a bout 90% prep, so if you prepare the surface being painted properly, you can do a good job. Maybe not paintshop quaility, but not paintshop price, either.Charles

Sorry, I had mine done at the paintshop. Actually, I have a friend that has a bodyshop and he did my entire cowl/hood with the silver and a few coats of clear. Turned out great.I know you need to sand it smooth and remove any grease or dirt that would effect the paint sticking. It isn't all that difficult, I just don't happen to have that knowledge.Charles
