I have a 2000 Johnson 115hp OB motor that has a problem that no one can seem to identify and/or fix. When I am on the water and accelerate to 3000 rpm’s or more the motor starts bogging down or cutting out almost like its missing. It never dies, it just runs really rough. At idle speeds, and any rpm up to @ 3000 rpm’s it runs pretty good. We’ve had it into 3 shops and no one can seem to figure out the problem. To date we’ve replaced the spark plugs, cleaned out the carbs, checked the jets for clogs (none found), checked the timing and compression (both good), drained off most of the fuel (found a couple of ounces of water), changed the fuel filter, and had the power pack tested (it was fine). Nothing has fixed the problem. Anybody have any ideas? I am wondering about the water pump and/or oil pump. Anybody ever seen this before? I thought the water in the tank was the problem as all this started right after I topped off my tank at a marina on Beaver Lake, AR at the end of March.

Sounds like the "SLOW" mode is kicking in. Someone else can tell you how to disable it for testing purposes. I'd have to be looking at your motor to tell you how. Maybe you can find someting if you do a search on slow mode.

60 degree or 90 degree engine? If it is a 60 degree engine, put boat in water connect peak reading meter to pack output to coil, run engine until misfire accurs, check all four cylinders. Check for coil arcing to powerpack cover.

My motor is the 60 degree.

If the SLOW system is activating would any of the lights be lighting up, or is there a chance that they wouldn't light up?

If S.L.O.W. is setting you should have an overheat light. I would check the power pack and timng sensor.

An update.

In the last several outings on my boat, the motor will initially start off running bad as outlined before. However within 10-15 minutes the boat starts running perfectly, and will continue to do so until I've gone home and then re-launched a day or so later. Then upon re-launch, the cycle repeats itself. Any new ideas?

If a dealer is doing the repair, find a different dealer. Check the power pack, and sensor as outlined in service manual, running test, boat in water in gear. Was the carb float needle and seat checked for trash? What was the compression, good does not mean anything. If you put the meter on it in water, you can find the problem. I would also check the key switch, there is 2 service bulletins on the switch, one for inproper installation, one for defective switch, both are a safety issue.
