55 horse johnson lack of power

this is not my motor so i dont know any background on it but it ran fine when we first put it in the water after taking a break it would not run at high speed even at the maxed out forward position it only goes as if it were at half speed

i can understand where you are comming from,<br />the best bet to fix the problem is rebuild the carbs and replace your plugs,, total cost of about 50 to 60 dollars get any of your parts at a marine dealer or any car auto supply shop....good luck...happy boating

if plug is firing i would clean out highspeed jet . take out drain plug run a small wire in through the plug hole the high speed jet is in the back side . i have don this several times on my 64 & 63 . pump bulb to wash out any debree befor putting plug back in
