What a great site - I've wandered through a number of posts, and I think I have some of the information presuming that the Evinrude 7.5 is similar to the Johnson. Could you let me know the above information for the Johnson to make sure I have gleaned the right stuff? I read in some of the other posts that anywhere from 24:1 to 40:1 is recommended; I've seen posts that refer to plugs that have a .040 and a .030 gap. What is the recommended?

Thanks

Misa, whenever you ask a question about a motor, please include the make, model, hp, and year of the motor. If you are not sure of this info, then post the serial number and any of the info you do have.

Different years and models use different plugs, and different gaps.
And different years also use different gas/oil mix ratio.

I would like to answer your questions, but I would only be guessing without knowing the specific motor you have.

So give us the details and we will try to answer them.

Sorry for the vagueness - all I know is that it is a Johnson SeaHorse 7.5 horsepower and it's likely from around 1956 or 1957. It's my father who is buying it and he doesn't have any more detail. He's going to look at it today.
