I have a 1974 50hp Evinrude that I just recently rebuilt the carbs on. The rebuild kit didn't have the float level adjustment so I just left the float levels the way they were. I can start the motor and after about 10 seconds it dies. The carbs appear to be flooding out. I've taken the bowls off the carbs and they are full of fuel. A friend let me try his carbs that we know work on his same type motor on my motor and my motor caused them to flood out also.

Re: carburetor flooding

If the carburetors are actually flooding, fuel would be flowing out of them.

Adjust the floats as follows. Hold the carburetor body upside down, then viewing the float from the side, adjust the float so that the end opposite the hinge pin is slightly higher (slightly off level), and that when viewed from the end it is not cocked.
