I have a 96' model johnson 130HP 4 cylinder it is oil injected. The motor will start and run fine for about a 1/4 mile then it will die as if it is not getting gas. I've checked the bubble when it is dying and it looks good and its getting gas correctly. The motor is pumping water out the back so i don't think it is getting hot. After it dies it will not start for about 5 minutes then it will start again and run fine for another 1/4 mile.

any ideas
thanks in advance
awol

Had a simular problem with a piece of silicone stuck in the fuel antisyphon valve at the outlet of the fuel tank, however, yours could be an electrical problem like a bad coil or the engine controler module getting hot or warm and shutting down, it would be a good idea to check for spark if possible when it is not running. That way you could devote your search to a smaller area.

I agree with dbajaer that it could be a bad coil...my dad's old motor (about 86, I think!) had the same symptoms and it a bad coil.

Could be other stuff as well, of course. Can you check the voltage on both sides of the coil?

This could be tricky to track down unless you're rather handy with electrical stuff...and very patient!
