mud in motor

This morning i started up my 1962 5.5 johnson not realizing that the water intake was in soft mud,the motor started to run hot,i noticed that no water was coming out and i shut it down.Question how can i get this mud out and do i have to pull power head to get at the pump? thank you

Welcome to the forum. You should just have to pull the lower unit. This will give you access to the water pump, which is probably clogged up. You should invest in a manual for your motor, as it will make the job go smoother. Future ones, too.

Hi Jack,thanks for the reply,do you mean the power head or the bottom by the lower gears.Thanks Tom
