I have a '96 Evinrude SPL, 50 horse. As soon as I take it over 3000 RPMs it begins to chug and of exhust pours out. (especially out of the prop, when the muffs are on.) When its in the water and in gear each time I try to accelorate the RPMs hit 3000 then drop immediatly to about 1000 or less and the engin makes a terrible chuggin sound and won't go. Could it be problems with the carborator? could it have sucked up mud? or low oil pressure? I have no clue.

This is a two stroke, correct? You have no oil pressure as the lube is mixed with the fuel (50:1) How is your compression? Plugs look good, spark to all of them? Check the throttle linkage also to see that the carbs open up fully at WOT. Could be carb probs, water in gas, etc.

i wouldnt crank it that hard (3000rpms)on the muffs. i have been told it is bad for the motor. Check for air leaks in your fuel lines. simple and cheap thing to check. good luck
