Looking for a switched "HOT" wire.

I am trying to clean up the wiring on a friends pontoon boat (55hp Yamaha). His fuel guage does not indicate when the ignition switch is set to "on", but it will indicate when the running lights are on. One thing has me stumped, I can't find a wire that is "switched" thru the ignition switch. Everything appears to be fed from the main bus through panel switches. Shouldn't there be a wire that goes hot when the ignition switch is turned on?

Sounds like someone did a lot of backyard riggin' on his wiring system. Actually, the main bus should be relayed through the ignition. The lights should work without ignition/on. the gauges should not. Quintin

Thanks Quintin66, that gives me more to work with. Still can't find anything in the console that is switched. May have to run my own.
