outboard holder upper??

ill give this a try,i have a 1969 johnson ob im wondering how the u shape holder upper?sorry not sure of name ,how it sits when not being used.does it just hang down and bang against the motor or is there something missing??also is that used when trailering?i think it is any help would be great. thanks for any help!!!!!!!!!!!!!keep on boating!!!!!!!!

I think what you're talking is called the "Trail Lock". On my engine, ('76) there's a spring that holds it either in the up (engaged)or down (stowed) position so it don' flop around.<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty
