shortshaft to longshaft conversion possible???

I have a johnson 9.5hp MQ-12A sn#J2603054 shortshaft which I believe is a 1966 vintage. My 14ft grumman has a 20-21" transom which I do not want to cut down. I was told Johnson made a long shaft model that year and I can pull parts off of and convert my shortshaft. Twin city motors says yes and has the parts but I also called Johnson tech service and he was somewhat sure you could not. Anybody have a clue if I can accomplish a conversion to a long shaft without buying a new longshaft OB motor. Tanks in advance for any help JayAz

Yes,<br /><br />I believe you can. YOu will need a new driveshaft (or lower unit ass'y) and the five inch exhaust tower extension.<br /><br />If Twin City Outbaoard says they have the parts, I'd go with them.
