Hi everyone, Grandpa just gave me his old aluminum boat and Johnson 9.9 seahorse mod # 10R75C. He said it takes a fuel mixture of 50:1, is this still a good mixture for this motor with todays gas, if not what is?

My second question is this motor has been sitting for about 5 year now. The gas tank was emptied and everything looks clean. Other than putting it in water before starting and mixing new gas what else should I check or do prior to trying to start this motor?

50-1 is good but i would pull the plugs and lube the cylinders before trying to start it. also clean the plugs and i would check the lower unit for lube.you are going to have to replace the water pump also after sitting that long i would not trust it

I would replace the plugs. For the cost of new one's it's worth it. If there is a fuel cleaner check that as well. Make sure your mixture is as good as possible. I always fill an empty six gallon tank with the exact oil mixture. I have a second tank to use when that one gets low always ensuring the correct mixture.

What would I use to lube the cylinders with, 2 stroke oil? What is a fuel checker? is it a fuel filter? Where is the water pump?
