I spend sometime in cold weather conditions with
my 85 evinrude 120vro It seems it doesnt like to
idle very well in cold weather and smokes and farts and stalls. I was thinkn there might be a
solution to make it run better. It does run great
at higher rpms, but I could do without the stallin
at idle. When the temperature is warm it runs great.

Replace or at least check your thermostats. They could be stuck open.

Re: Running in cold temp.

I checked both thermostats and they are closed
when cold. And open up fine in hot water, I
put them in a pot of hot water to see if they
operated ok. I think the motor should run good
even in cold temperatures. But maybe it is
characteristic of this motor. I would think that
these motors are used up north in a much colder
enviroment than here. Maybe its some kind of carb
problem.?
