74 EVINRUDE no spark

I have a 1974 envinrude triumph 70 hp just put a head gasket on it it was the original and now i wont get spark it had spark the first time i tried it because it shocked me. I tried it again and no shock i believe all the parts are original i would appreciate any help you can give me.

Ken, electric start or manual?<br /><br />if it's electric, you may want to check condition of starter, and battery's. The batteries won't provide the spark... (the magneto does that), but if the batteries, and starter combined cannot generate at LEAST 350-400 rpm, the magneto will not produce enough energy to cause a spark to form... hence no sparky, no starty...<br /><br />(just had to replace the starter on my '83 235 after re-building it, for this very issue...)<br /><br />Good Luck, Obiwan

thanks i will put the charger on the battery.
