I have inherited a seized evinrude lightwin. I have the power head completely disassembled. I am new to outboards and am wondering how to ascertain the year and horsepower rating for the motor. I would also appreciate some insight into whether parts (pistons, gasksets, etc.) for this motor might be available. The numbers I found on the powerhead are 3502a and b03228 1.
Thanks in advance for your expertise fellas. Michaelj.

'mornin'michaelj,

' nice thing 'bout ol' Rudes is that there are plenty of parts still available. you can check with your local OMC/Bomb dealer. they will be able to help with most every thing you need.

as per this page, i think that you have a '65(?) 3 horse:
http://www.marinshopen.se/

might suggest you pick up a manual. a Seloc is somewhat generic but as OMC used the same basic design across an entire series of motors, for decades.

i suggest these two links to help get you started. the first is generic procedures for getting an old motor ready to run.
http://www.precisionserv.com/Outboards/Revitalization.htm

this next link gives the tune up procedure for MANY of the old small Rudes. this guy can also supply the parts you need.
http://www.maxrules.com/fixtuneitup.html

this is the first of several pages of the tune up procedure. it's a long page with the critical info near the bottom so don't get impatient.

Good Luck with the ol gal & let us know how she'z doin'

HAVE FUN!
