Model year of my Evinrude 88 spl

I just bought a boat with an evinrude 88 spl outboard. I have the model number (as best I can read it its been painted over) its #185771. Plus can anyone tell me how many digits are in the serial number of this motor. Its been painted over as well. Thanks

Ahoy, Maverick.<br /><br />You gave us the serial number. We need the model number. Try some sandpaper.

Hello Maverick, I also have an 88 SPL that I was able to find the year. They are great engines (in my opinion). You need the model number, should be on the left side on the mounting bracket.
