This is my first year taking my boat out of storage. I found both batteries dead. I charged them and put them back in. Now the boat runs the batteries dead just sitting there out of the water. I have disconnected the accesory power and the determined the engine is drawing the power.

I used a voltage regulator and found that the engine is drawing power all the time.

Does any body have a clue what could be causing this problem?

Thank You in Advance

Re: Johnson Outboad Draining Battery

1> recharge batteries
2>disconnect ground cable from engine
3>insert a testlight (or ammeter) between the ground cable and engine block. If substantial drain exists, light will glow.
4>while light is glowing, disconnect harness plugs and wires, "one at a time" until the light goes out. Then you've found the offending circuit....(likely charging circuit or starter solenoid) :)

Remember, poor batteries will also mimic your problem. The above test will actually verify a system drain....
