morse steering

purchased a 1980 crest pontoon with a 25 merc. it had a morse steering system installed. I am not familiar with this system. I need to disconnect the cable to install a new captains stand. should i disconnect it from the engine or the steering colomn .which one is easier and how do i do it. anyone have any insight<br /><br />thanks

Probably easier from the column moehead. Is it a rotary or rack&pinion system?

it is a rotary. how do i get the cable out . do i turn the wheel until it pops out?

Theres usually a little bolt that clamps the cable end. Remove that..and then turn the wheel until the cable pops out.
