96 Evinrude 150 Oceanpro. Hard starting, plenty of fuel, check the plugs and they are wet, checked for spark from the plugs and there wasn't any. This has the optical ignition system. Does this work like a CDI unit on other two strokes and does it control the spark? Is the unit on the aft/top where the plug wires come out, the optical system? Would replacing this unit fix the no spark problem?

First welcome - you will find a ton of info here. Having said that you may not want my suggestion which is to get the manual for your motor and follow the troubleshooting procedures. Most manuals have specs and photos. If you get stuck post back. Folks will be glad to help.

I have 95 175hp rude opro. The powerpack on mine went last year. Heard that 6-8 years is about the average lifespan. Check the manual for the tests for the stator and powerpack and I'm pretty sure you will find your problem. As long as the magnets are still in place!!<br />Good luck
