you didnt specify what year of motor, but this should basically apply.1-if connected at motor disconnect.2-move control to full forward position.3-rotate prop & move lever on motor by hand into forward gear <back towards head> (depending on motor)4-place shift cable on shift lever pin, washer, nut finger tite.5-pull on cable casing to remove play & adjust trunnion nut <wheel> to slide into cable lock.6-install lock cover & torque screw 60-80 inlbs <7-9nm> (depending on motor).7-shift control to neutral8-remove cable from lever pin on motor & make sure lower unit is in neutral.9-reattach cable to lever pin with washer, locknut & tighten. just has to be tite.-there is more about shift rod height adjustment if that doesnt work. helps to get an omc manual-if i missed anything some one will add or correct me. this is just basic info.just trying to help
