evinrude 115 lack of power

I have a 76 evinrude 115 on a 175 skeeter boat. It dosent seem to rev high enugh on wot it engages in gear as soon as I move the throttle forward a little, but then doesnt start to accelerate unti; I am at 1/2 throttleseems like carbs are opening all the way, but just barely gets boat to plane. (I'm new at this boating thing)

Hi, Frank.<br /><br />Has the engine ever performed well for you?<br /><br />You may be down a cylinder or two. With the engine idling on the hose, pull each plug wire and note what the engine does. If rpm drops, that cylinder is making power. If there is no change, that cylinder is dead.<br /><br />Check for a hot, blue spark to any dead cylinder.<br /><br />No spark? Get your manual and troubleshoot the ignition system.<br /><br />Got spark? Overhaul the carbs.<br /><br />If you don't have a manual, get one.<br /><br />Let us know what you find.
