I just bought a '86 evinrude 115. It has been setting up. I need to replace the impeller. I have completely rebuilt the lower unit on a stern drive but this is a little different. To take the lower unit off, do I only have to undo the lower unit bolts or is there any bolts or links I have to undo in the upper end to release anything. thanks

Re: water impeller

you may have a shift-shaft or shift-shaft-coupler to contend with. Your manual should give the details.

You also have to disconnect the shift rod. It's held with a retaining pin at the shift lever. BTW, OMC manual says to have the gears in REVERSE when you're dropping the gear case.
