i recently purchased a 1986 Evinrude 175 and will instll a temp and water pressure gauges. What is the correct location for the temp gauge (in water jacket)and best way to drill location and keep drill scraps from getting in to passages. Also, where should the pressure gauage line come from, the telltale or somewhere else? Thanks for your help as i am relatively new to outboards.

Hi edboat;You can tee into the telltail for the water pressure guage, but I don't think that I would drill into water passage to install a temp. probe. Most of the ones that I've seen are a sender that bolts under a head bolt. This kind will give an indication of head temp. and that is where the overheat warnings come from.Good Luck
