I have read both (forum and service manual) concerning recommended fuel and have reached a fork in the river so here it is.....What octane rating of fuel should i run in my 1996 112SPL hp Evinrude for optimum performance and most of all....to make this baby last? Your experience is greatly appreciate.
Chapster,Your engine requires no more than 87 octane with a good TCW-3 rated oil mixed at 50:1.Premium fuels will not help anything and will only add to combustion chamber deposits.
DJohns,This is exactly what i will do. Speaking of deposits in combustion chamber, what about this whole de-carbing thing?? Mix in fuel or spray in and when.
Chapster,If you are unfamiliar with the engine-new to you.I would do the big decarb. first. Do the search on this board using decarb. as your search words. There are some very detailed explanations of the process. After that, you should be good.I run a little Sea Foam in the fuel per their instructions. It does two things.1. Stabilizes the fuel between trips.2. Aids in keeping combustion chambers clean.
