Default Idling Rough.........84 Evinrude 115HP

84 Evinrude 115HP is idling rough and dies after 15 seconds or so. While idling it also seems to be jumping around alot more....Whats the likely problem?

Not knowing the history of the engine and whether the timing has been messed with or not I would be inclined to guess that your carb idle porting is fouled.Have you inspected or replaced the sparkplugs?

Checked the plugs and found what looked like one wet fouled plug. Replaced all four with new plugs. The idle is a little smoother....Thanks Also, is there a fuel pump rebuild kit for this engine(84 Evinrude 115HP w/VRO)??Thanks for the feedback!

Yes.P/N 05004559.If your engine will run at high speed the fuel pump is not culprit. The kit also has no rebuild parts for the oil half of VRO.

Rough idle is also a symptom of cold engine...which will foul plugs. Check the t'stat.

Had the same problem on my "98" 115. Do a compression check. Unfortunately, I found a broken ring in the top cylinder. I had to bore the cylinder out and install an oversized piston.

OB in Corpus....or anyone else....the fuel pump on this engine is faulty. It is idling, but will not run past an idle (have to pump the primer bulb to run at higher speeds) you mentioned P/N 05004559.The kit also has no rebuild parts for the oil half of VRO. .....I've disconnected the VRO and mix manually........Where can I get this rebuild kit????

You can either get it from your local dealer or one of the online stores. Here's one. web pageThere is also a conventional fuel pump that can be got for your engine.Don't have the P/N for it.

Ob.....the P/N O5004559 is a complete pump and not a rebuild kit(says the Dealer). The VRO pump is about $250 and the fuel only pump is $150. Is there an actual rebuild kit or less expensive fuel only pump that will work for this 84 Evinrude 115HP??
