1985 50hp evinrude

I have a 1985 50hp evinrude outboard that runs great for the first 20 min. Then when i get ready to move to another spot it only runs about half speed. Sometims it will surge up to full speed.<br /><br />Should I start with fuel troubleshooting or what??

The fuel system is where I'd start. Get yourself a spray bottle of premix and when engine is running "half speed", give the carbs a squirt of fuel and see if engine picks up or not. That'll help isolate the problem.<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty

Also,check your fuel tank vent and make sure it's not clogged and you might want to try giving your primer bulb a squeeze and see if that makes it run better when it slows down. Is the bulb staying firm when it boggs down?

I have a 85 hp that had the same problems and it turned out to be a short in the power pack and when it got hot it didnt run correctly.
