the boat I just bought has a steel gas tank that says 'Johnson' on it, which leads me to believe that it was purchased with the engine (1972).

From using it Over the years, I am sure that there is a ton of buildup in the tank...would it be a good idea to go ahead and get a new tank, maybe a plastic one for weight?

Just curious. Planning my first trip ever tomorrow, wish me luck!
Thanks!
Shawn

There is no reason why you can't clean the one you have. But if you WANT a new one, then get one. Just be honest about it and say "Hey, I want a new one."

ShawnQ,

Empty the tank and have a good look inside with a flashlight. You can buy the kit that contains the gasket for the guage/outlet. That will allow you two holes to look through.
