My 1984 evinrude 115 seems to have popped a seal or something. The lift piston leaks badly when I tilt the motor down.I have to refill it every time I use it.I cant seem to get anyone to work on it.As soon as they hear the year of it they dont want work on it.I dont think it is something I can do myself unless there is an easy fix I dont know about. The hard part looks like getting the piston off the unit.
Hi, Can you see exactly where the leak is? Does it only leak in the down mode? The motor usually has to come off the boat, for you to remove and work on the tilt unit. Wher in NY are you? I may know someone you cold bring it to, depending on where you are.
Thanks for the reply,it is leaking from where the rod exits and retracts from the piston housing. It looks like it leaks in both directions. The top of the piston housing is totally covered with fluid when I raise the motor, you can actually hear the fluid escaping as the motor raises.I am on Long island.
