1971 40 hp johnson won't come up to power

In late April I went to a lake in north Texas. The water was really muddy, the motor cranked up fine I was on the water for about an hour. The next day when I went back out the motor would not come up to full power. I got maybe 1/2 power with the throttle full open. When I got home I cleaned all of the filters and the carb. I ran it in some clean water with out any positive results. One of the filters I cleaned is under the carb and was really dirty. I am the third owner of the boat and I am not sure of the hours on the motor. I have changed the plugs as well.

Hi, Joe.<br /><br />You are probably running on one cylinder.<br /><br />There have been eight or ten identical or similar problems in the past few days.<br /><br />Check out those other threads and the lists of troubleshooting checks suggested.<br /><br />Let us know what you find. Good luck. :)
