PPM setting for 92 Evinrude 40hp

I'm getting conflicting information on the correct pulse setting for my 92 Evinrude 40 hp tachometer. Is it 5 or 6?

According to the Teleflex site, 5 pole would be correct.

That's right, Teleflex says 5, but one of the most reliable guys on the BFHP site says 6.

I tend to believe the company that makes them. Although, I have always used the 6 pole setting on my OMC products. I used to think that all OMC's were run on that setting, but now I wonder. Maybe someone who has the 40 HP will chime in.

And what makes it really interesting is, what would be the symptoms of being set on 5 when it should be 6 or vice versa? I wish I had taken that outboard motor repair course at the votech school here.
