Evinrude 85 Selectric Problem

The engine seems to be working fine in forward, but when in reverse the prop turns, but in the water backs very slowly like something is slipping and there is no reverse power to back up.

Anyone help with this? Need advice.

It could be the prop design.Props are made to run forward and are very inefficient in reverse.

Hey Charles.

I'd like to ask about the "Selectric" on your post. Is it an 85'? Electric shifts have been gone since around 72'. Can you give us a model number from the engine? Then we can maybe better determine your problem. Thanks.

The year of the motor is 1968 I think, but not really sure, would have to get the model # in the daylight as i dont really know where to locate it, but it is 85 HP.
