Head Cover Stripping

Recently aquired an 18hp evinrude sn#18305AE0002383. Top cylinder spark plug threads appear pitted and are starting to strip. Can this be repaired,or is new/used head cover required, and is this symptomatic of a larger problem? Also was told it is a 1971, is this a 50:1 fuel mix motor or should it be a richer mix like my 1957 Johnson 18hp? <br /><br />Thanks folks!

Howdy, Smasher.<br /><br />Your head can be repaired with a helicoil or "thread-sert" insert. No need to replace.<br /><br />If your engine is a '71, or anything after '64 it uses a 50:1 mix.<br /><br />Good luck. :)
