'89 88hp evinrude

I have a '89 88hp evinrude. On the remote, below the ignition key is a 3-pin connector and a knob. I believe the connector is for a tach and something else? Can someone tell me what the black knob is for?<br /><br />Thanks.........

Yes, The 3 pin connector is for a Tach. Very easy to install Tach with the adapter cord! And the knob IS for throttle tension! Just put a Tach on my boat(91 Evinrude 70), took about 1/2 hour with the adapter cord. Of course, I already had an opening for the Tach to fit into! Good Luck, Rick
