I have a 50hp Johnson, I think it is 1972, the model #50esl72 c. I have tried all conections and contacts, (cleaning), but it won't throw any spark. It does turn over well. Iwould like to know of some simple tests to isolate what the problems is. I did pull the fly wheel as well, I found what I believe is the main coil, if that's the proper word for it, seems that the round coils are cracked and some of the plastic seems to have melted some what. I suspect this may be the problem but would like your opinions before I take it to a shop or start investing in parts. This motor has not been ran for 2yrs. It work real good 2yrs ago but unsparkable at the moment.Thank you in advance for any help you may have.
