MY FATHER HAS HAD THIS MOTOR ON A 89 18'9" NITRO SINCE IT WAS NEW. THIS COMBO HAS ALWAYS HAD (SERIOUS)PROBLEMS GETTING OUT OF THE HOLE. THE BOAT & MOTER HAUL BUTT WHEN UP ON PLANE TO APPROX. 5,500 RPM. FROM DEAD STOP TO FULL THROTTLE RPM GOES TO APPROX. 3,000 RPM AND THE BOW POINTS TO THE SKY FOR 30 SECONDS OR MORE B/4 GOING UP ON PLANE (THIS IS ON A SMOOTH DAY). ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO PLANE OUT IN ROUGH CONDITIONS. BEEN TO MANY MECHANICS SPENT LOTS OF $$$ AND STILL HAVE SAME PROBLEM. ANY SUGGESTIONS? WOULD BE VERY GRATEFULL.

Its a pad boat right. Sounds like the motor is trimmed out too far. If it is trimmed all the way in when you take off, the transom angle may be too straight. Get a set of angle transom shims and try them.

Tell us more about the set up. Jackplate? X dimention height (where is the anti ventalation plate in reference to the true bottom)? What prop? At only 5500 top rpm (average load) your holeshot might be expected to be somewhat sluggish. What have you tried? Have you raised the motor to test? What's the timing set at? Good luck!

I agree also with the guys here. where are you setting the motor on the lift and where is your trim setting also a new question what prop are you running on it

Thanks for the suggestions. Currently have 3 blade 23 pitch prop. No jack plate. The angle shims sound like they may be the answer. Have learned alot from all the inputs. Will let you know how the shims work out.JWPAV
