1995 88 johnson

engine is always putting out 16 volts,I have been told this engine has no regulator so its is supposed to put out this much .Anyone else heard or this.....

Don't know what type engine you have but it is probably OK. Check all the connections between the engine and the battery in which it uses the battery to load and stablize the charging system.

Have 1995 70 hp evinrude . Mine puts out 13 volts

Superman is right about checking the connections to and at the Battery. Also be sure you have a good battery, as it will be forever trying to charge a bad one! That happend to me on my 70 HP Evinrude. Was running 16 Volts, replaced battery, and was back down to the 13 Volt range. The old Battery would always start it, but it also was charging at a high rate! Good Luck.

TOVIN,<br /><br />ChecK the negative battery cable at the engine block. Actually remove it and clean it up. V-4's were notorious for this ground getting corroded.<br /><br />High resistance=high charging rates.

I have spoken to Johnson rep. who told 1995 88 hp is supposed to put out 16-18 volts it has no regulator.....
