spark plug wire

can a person use a car spark plug wire to replace one on a outboard just to check to see in the outboard wire is bad<br />(1974 70hp johnson)

Hi leafs,<br />You can check the spark plug wire with an ohmmeter, you should getalmost zero ohms. It's a solid core wire, most automotive wires are a carbon type wire. To answer your question though, you could probly do it, but I would rather use an ohmmeter. It's only a piece of wire in there, and they very seldom break.<br />Good luck

Yes it is stranded, that gives it its flexability. The wire inside your spark plug wire is almost like the wire on your extension cords and lights, its just inside a thicker insulator. <br /><br />By the wal Leaf do you stay up late thinking up these questions or is your motor a serious basket case.
