Separating lower unit on Evinrude 20hp 1985

I have undone the four retaining bolts plus the single forward stud bolt, put it into forward gear and discontected the gear shift rod at the combined water intake and gear shift window, but I still can't separate the lower unit - am I missing something simple? I need to replace the impeller and I'm now a bit stuck.<br />20 HP Evinrude<br />Model No.BE20 BFLCOS<br />Serial No. B09051

hey mick<br />the gear shift bolt must be completely removed, not just loosened. there is a groove that it slips into, and it has to come right out to pull it free. but if you DID do this, then i'm stumped to. good luck.<br />lm
