driveshaft

have a 1987 evinrude 140 driveshaft broke above water pump. question replace with used 1 piece as cost is lower or convert to the new 2 piece? any captains opinion is greatly appreciated. :(

Personally..With a engine that old I would replace with used. My thoughts only.

thanx trent -----had the power head rebuilt 1yr. ago didn't know if it would happen again with a used shaft

Drive shafts don't break very often, in fact I've personally not seen one. Splines sometimes get buggered, but a clean break is rare. Did you hit something at or near WOT?

It happens. The new 2 piece is stronger but there's no reason you can't use the one piece. There are plenty around. <br /><br />Good luck!
