83 Evinrude 50 hp - left out for 4 yrs. - cleaning it up now.

The carbs are now clean. Not as much gunk as I thought. :D

Did a compression test 155/160 (top/bottom cylinder). That seemed a little high. I don't have any #'s to let me know if that is good or bad. Any idea's out there in expert land?

I appreciate it.

Jason

Re: Compression Testing - Too high?

I just put a brand new battery on it, so got that part covered.

Any suggestions on where to look for the factory compression #'s?

Thanks for the input either way. :D

Jason

Hi
I wouldn't worry so much if it is 130 or 150
as long they are within 10%. Yours ar perfekt.

If you whant to compare with factory messure, you have to have a precise instrument, that have been calibrated. I dont think you can compare messurement form 2 diffrent instruments.

mikael

Jonson/Evinrude did not give compression specs in service manual.

Re: Compression Testing - Too high?

Those numbers are good and not unusual given the port timing configuration in that motor.

Good luck!
