My Evinrude 70 smokes a lot at idle and low RPMVRO is disconnected.I have mounted a new headgasket and thermostat. At higher RPM it works fine. It works fine also at idle but it´s irritating with all that smoke. Fuel/Oil ratio is 50:1. The engine has been stored for a couple of years, maybe that can harm the carbs, Also when pressing the bulb on the fuelline it never gets firm. (Pls bare with my spelling I´m from a´broad.)Any suggestions??
Howdy, SS.It is normal for 2 strokes to smoke. It seems like a lot more at idle because the smoke sufaces right behind the boat. At higher speeds the smoke surfaces quite a way behind, and is spread out.If your primer bulb does not get firm, you may have one or more carbs with leaky float needles causing one cylinder to run too rich. That would cause extra smoke. An inspection of the spark plugs would help determine the health of your engine. Slight tan deposits and slightly moist is a normal plug. Black and sooty or lots of carbon and wet with fuel is a sign that cylinder is too rich.Let us know what you find.
Thanks for your reply! The plugs are new and looks fairly ok. a bit oily moist on them, maybe a bit too much.I believe it could be a good idea to change floatneedles and see if makes a difference. Would that be a major job??
