'60 Evinrude 18 crankshaft seal

Hi,

First, thanks in advance for any help!!!!

I have an opportunity to purchase a motor from someone, who tells me this motor runs well, but leaks at the crankshaft seal. I haven't replaced one of these yet and didn't know how intesive it might be. Can I access the seal after removing the Armature plate? Or do I have to get in to the powerhead? Any information is greatly appreciated!

Which crankshaft seal, top or bottom?

That's a good question. It leaks under the flywheel, so I would say the top

Top seal can be replaced without opening the block on this engine
