Backed away from the dock and went to go forward. No forward gear. Motor just revved up. I had worked on the fuel lines a couple of days earlier and had moved the air silencer from the front of the carburetor without detaching the throttle and gear linkages. Finally adjusted the linkage and got forward gear back......but lost the reverse gear. Finally limped back to the dock and took the boat out. The next day, I worked on the motor and tightened down the cable holding clamp. I think I've got both gears back now...at least out of water. Haven't taken it back out yet. Any suggestions if I still have problems?

Have had the boat out a couple of times since, can't get both forward and reverse - just one or the other. Sunday we started noticing the motor start to race and then slow down. Finally slipped out of gear. Tightened the linkage and ran fine for a while and then started to slip again. Took it out of the water and will check this week. Any ideas?

I cant tell from your post but are you losing the gears with the cable connected or disconnected? What happens if you leave the cable off and shift it by hand? If you have the gears then I would guess your cable has streached and should be replaced.Good luck!

The problem is with the cable connected. I'll try tonight to shift with the cable off.
