I have a Johnson 3 HP Sea Horse model # JW-10, serial # 980601.It was given to me with the reeds froze up,I got it running but the it will not idle low and I was wondering the year of the motor and the settings for the low idle,if you can help let me know thanks Brian!

redwings<br />It is a 1952,53 or 54. There is several reasons this engine may or may not idle. The low speed needle valve usually adjustable to a decent idle from 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn counter clockwise from gently closed ,+-. <br />If the carb is cruddy, the old cork float is no good, the ignition is weak-coils-points-spark plugs-condensers, wires, the compression is weak-very likely-stuck rings-rusty cylinder bore it ain't going to idle well. Get a manual and try to locate parts/kits you may need. A number of NLA <br />(no longer available) parts on the engine.<br />Backfire ;)
