I have a 1974 evinrude9.9hp sportwin electric. The service manual calls to set the float using the float gauge. I do not remeber seeing one in the Carb Kit can anyone shed some light on this.

Take the top off the carburetor, turn it upside down and adjust the float so the centerline (of the float) is parallel with the casting.c/6Hooty

SongdogThe tool the manual is refering to is a simple cut out to ensure that the float is parallel. you can make one yourself by taking some stiff cardboard and cut out the width of the float bowl and as deep as the top of the float. make sure the cut in and the bottom are parallel. Or your service manual probably will give you a measurement from the bowl wall to the top of the float. or (after all this)Hooty has a very good suggestion.
