Default Evinrude 125hp model number

I have purchased an Evinrude 125hp "starflight" outboard, with the help of "Whaley" I have narrowed the age down to 1970/72 the motor is a V4 electronic ignition with electro gear shift. I have tryed to order a manual with this information but the suppliers require a modle number before they can advise me on which manual to purchase. The motor is in a bad way and in need of a lot of T.L.C the sooner I get the manual the sooner I can start work. Can anyone help with:-A model number for this engine.Which manual I require. Many Thanks

Well I can help a little. The 125 was only built in 71 and 72. They are very much alike. At least we eliminated the 1970 which was a 115.Good luck!

Your model number should be on a metal plate, located on the upper, inside leg of the engine, just below the area where it bolts onto the boat. You may need to turn the engine to one side and possibly wipe away the grime in order to read these numbers. We closed our dealership after 31 years and still have literature and many parts in stock for these older engines. Please email me direct for more info.

Thank you "Bear" the model number you gave me for '71 has done the job and my manual is ordered. I'm sure I will be in touch with you "Retired Man" as soon as I get the manual and get started on the strip down. Chances are I will need a lot more help before I get the job finished.Once again many thanks to you both.
