89 Evinrude 175 wiring

I need help identifying the wires in the two cables coming from the motor to the console of an old Mako. One has 8 wires, the other has 5. I never thought it could be this difficult to find out...help...

The 8 wire is for the engine, the 5 wire is for the tilt, trim, and gage.
